Jean Cheely, Glass Artist
Glass is a dynamic medium. It can be melted, molded, painted,
combed, stretched, and cast. It is transformed by light: changing with the time
of day and the change of seasons. It is fragile and temperamental, and even the
most careful plans often yield surprises. Glass is fascinating.
For my work,
I draw inspiration from the world around me. A photograph. A burst of color. An
emotion. A seascape. A story. A tragedy. They all make me ask, “How can I capture that in
glass?” I begin with a collection of colors and textures. Then I cut, drip,
slump, twist, and coax my glass into forms that capture my vision. My work is
defined by its vivid colors, simple lines and multiple thermal techniques.
